Brunei bags three bronze in Asian meet

Brunei Darussalam national wushu athletes bagged three bronze medals during the 11th Asian Junior Wushu Championships at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in Macau yesterday.

Walid Lachkar won bronze in the boy’s changquan event after recording a score of 8.903 points.

The national athlete faced stern competition against opponents from South Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and Singapore.

The event was won by Chinese Taipei’s Yun Chieh Chen who struck gold with a score of 9.053 points, followed by Malaysia’s Jung Hyuk Alvyn Toh with silver with a score of 8.953 points.

Brunei Head Coach Li Hui said Walid showcased his best performance having impressed the panel with a variety of complex moves.

The coaches expressed their happiness with his performance as he joined the country’s line of talents to win a medal in a prestigious competition.

Meanwhile, the country’s rising star Meagan Marie Keasberry collected her second bronze in as many days after adding the girls’ taijiquan event.

The young prospect registered a score of 8.516 points behind her opponents from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Brunei’s Ching Hwa Chu also secured bronze in the boys’ taijiquan event after accumulating a haul of 8.790 points. – Fadhil Yunus
