Wushu star bags silver in World University Games

Brunei Darussalam’s wushu star Basma Lachkar continued to bring glory to the country by winning a silver medal in the women’s taijijian event at the World University Games in Chengdu, China on Sunday.

Basma finished with the score 9.680 to snatch silver while gold medal went to Chen Xiaoli who scored 9.746 and Shoji Rise of Japan took bronze after finishing with 9.660.

Meanwhile, in her earlier event, Basma finished at seventh spot in the women’s taijiquan event with the score 9.46,8 while Hosea Wong also finished seventh in the men’s taijiquan event scoring 9.596.

National coach Li Hui said, “We are satisfied with our athletes’ results because this is a very high level competition which includes athletes from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia among others. We are very proud that Basma was able to win a silver medal and bring glory to Brunei. Our hard work has paid off because it is not easy to obtain medal in such a high level competition.”

He thanked the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, the Youth and Sports Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as well as the National Wushu Federation for their continuous support. – James Kon
