The national under-21 netball team arrived home to a warm welcome yesterday following their appearance in the Asian Youth Netball Championship (AYNC) 2023 held from June 10 to 17.

The Young Bees secured seventh place in the Asian meet after defeating Taipei 46-30 in their final playoff game.

Brunei began their campaign with a 90-8 defeat to Singapore in their opening match before bouncing back with a 41-25 victory over Taipei. They narrowed the deficit in a 82-16 defeat to continental powerhouses Sri Lanka before concluding their campaign with a 54-15 win over hosts South Korea.

The third place placing Group ‘B’ earned them a tie with Thailand where they succumbed to a 60-28 loss. Meanwhile, the association said, “We would like to show our highest appreciation to Asia Netball and Jeonju Netball Association for organising the AYNC.”

Malaysia emerged as champions and defended their title after defeating fierce rivals Singapore 49-45 in an enthralling final.

Sri Lanka finished third after defeating Hong Kong 46-32 in a playoff. The top three teams qualified as representatives of Asia for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup which will be held in Gibraltar.
