Brunei contingent ready for Sukma Games

Athletes representing Brunei Darussalam must be highly disciplined, embody sportsmanship and have a competitive spirit.

This was said by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad during the national flag handover ceremony to the contingent heading to 2022 Sukma Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The minister said the athletes are not there only for exposure but to compete at their highest levels with the goal to win.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud said the Brunei contingent comprises 25 athletes and 14 officers.

The athletes will compete in swimming, karate, petanque, pencak silat and wushu.

Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal said they have been training since last year to ensure a high level of competition in the tournament.

Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah was also present at the ceremony held at Dewan Gadong of the MCYS building.

The Brunei contingent leaves for Kuala Lumpur today. The games is from September 16 to 24.
