Amaliah records first win at Commonwealth Games

AMALIAH binti Haji Matali chalked the Brunei Darussalam national lawn bowl team first win at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after recording a 21-14 victory over Jersey’s Rachel MacDonald in the Women’s Singles at Broadbeach Bowls Club in Gold Coast yesterday.

The result puts Amaliah temporarily in third place with three points behind leader Scotland’s Caroline Brown and Wales’ Laura Daniels.

It was the ideal response for the SEA Games silver medallist after reacting from her opening-day loss against Laura.

Despire the morale-boosting victory, Amaliah endured a tough 21-12 loss at the hands of Caroline who consolidated her position at the top of Section B for knockout progress.

The men’s triples team comprising Haji Naim Brahim, Mohd Israt Aminuddin bin Haji Abdul Ghani and Abdul Rahman Omar was held to a 11-11 draw leaving them still in the hunt for a first win.

Ampuan Ahad bin Ampuan Kasim and Pengiran Haji Tengah bin Pengiran Haji Tajudin also could not move into the win column in the men’s pairs after falling to a 30-7 loss to Australia’s Aaron Wilson and Brett Wilkie.
