Brunei lose 11-0 for a third time in Asian meet

BRUNEI Darussalam’s men’s national hockey team suffered a hat trick of 11-0 losses with tournament favourites Taipei their latest conquerors in the Men’s Asian Hockey Challenge 2017 at the Theinphyu Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar yesterday.

Taipei are in a relentless pursuit of the title after staying perfect with three straight wins while Brunei will be taking this tournament as an experience for the future.

Brunei trailed 5-0 in the first half through goals from Huang Tzu-Yu, Tseng Hsien-Yi, Li An-Szu, Chen His-Fan and Hsu Chieng-Chieh before a capitulation resumed in the second half.

Tu Yu-Chuan scored twice within a space of a minute as Hsu Ching-Chieh and Li An-Szu grabbed their second of the game in the 41st and 44th minute, respectively.

Tseng notched a double of his own in the 48th minute before Huang completed the misery eight minutes from time.

Meanwhile, in the other pool match, host nation, Myanmar took an advantage in the race of finishing second shall group leadership remains by beating Hong Kong 2-0 through goals by Zaw Hein Min and Than Htut Win.

Brunei will attempt to minimise the gap in the reverse fixture against a desperate Hong Kong side looking for points in their next match today.

In the other match, Myanmar will be looking to take a stab on top spot if they could snatch victory over Taipei.
