TEN Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam (WFBD) committee members left the country yesterday to attend the three-day 2016 Taiji Beijing International Health-building Exchange in China.

The event starts today at the Beijing University Gymnasium with the opening ceremony and a performance and will be followed by a Taiji exchange. The event continues tomorrow with a seminar on Taiji and Health Building at the Beijing Conference Centre and will conclude the following day with cultural tours.

In an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday, WFBD vice-president Woo Chung Heng said that the purpose of the visit is to update the international wushu community on their development over the past two years. “All federations will be attending this event and we are expected to present what we have been doing for the sport over the past years,” said Woo.

“We also hope to learn new things from this trip, for example, if there are new additions to rules and regulation for the sport. “I hope everyone will take the opportunity to learn from this trip,” he added.

The biennial event also aims to further extend the international influence of taiji and promote the friendly exchanges between Beijing and the other parts of the world. This year’s theme is ‘Taiji and Health-building’, which includes taiji quan, taiji roliqiu and health qigong.

The Beijing International Taiji Quan Exchange and Beijing International Taiji Rouliqiu Exchange have been held over the past three years.

Present to send the members off at the Brunei International Airport yesterday was national wushu coach Li Hui and WFBD secretary general Lim Boon Hwa.
