AHMAD Taufiq Murni triumphed over Pg Anak Hj Abdul Awadi ZH Pg Anak Latifuddin 7-0 in the second leg of the National 9-Ball Ranking Challenge on Sunday.

The nation’s top cueist, Taufiq sealed his spot in the final after beating Teo Chee Soon 7-4 in the semi-final while Pg Anak Hj Awadi advanced to the final after beating Lim Wei Kok 7-1 at the Fullcan Pool and Snooker Centre in Beribi. Taufiq currently sits at the summit of the tournament’s rankings with 180 points, followed by Md Khalid Hj Abu Bakar and Teo Chee Soon with 110 points. Lim Wei Kok is fourth with 85 points.

“I had a good game yesterday (Sunday) but I had a few hiccups now and then,” Taufiq said. “I still have to work on my break techniques which is very crucial for a solid game. We have a long way to go until the grand finals, so anything can happen. “At the moment, I’m also eyeing to compete in the Golden Break 9-Ball Invitational 2015 in June - one of the many international tournaments this year.

“As I mentioned before, the international exposure can help me improve my game, but we shall see what happens,” he added. The tournament is organised by the Brunei Darussalam Cue Sports Association (BCSA) and is contested over eight legs from April to August.

The top 16 players after eight legs will be competing for top honours in the grand finals slated for Oct 29-30 at the Billiards and Snooker Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The third leg of the tournament will be confirmed by BCSA in the coming weeks.
