Nurul Mohd Andi Hambali wins Boys Singles title

Nurul Mohd Andi Hambali beat Arun Isak Ravi Kumar 6-3, 7-5 to win the Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association (BDTA) Open Boys Singles (1st leg) Junior tournament yesterday.

Rahul Kumar, meanwhile, finished as the consolation winner during the competition held at the National Tennis Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Prizes were presented by Brunei Tennis Club president Hambali Pehin Dato Hj Salleh.

A press release issued by BDTA yesterday stated that Brunei Tennis Club, Panaga Club,Brunei Shell Recreation Club are clubs affiliated with the national sports association that share a common goal in developing good junior players for Brunei Darussalam.

Next on the list for BDTA is the BDTA Open Doubles (1st leg), which is set to start next Monday and end on the Sunday.

BDTA recently organised the 49th International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit tournament which came to a conclusion last Sunday.

Unseeded Italian Samuele Ramazzotti beat second seed Shohei Chikami of Japan 6-4, 6-2 to win the boy's singles title while 15th seed Qi-Li Ma from China was crowned champion of the girl's singles after going past12th seed Yang Lee from Chinese Taipei 6-3, 6-0.

Meanwhile in the boy's doubles tournament, top seeds Anthony Susanto and Tio Juliandi Hutauruk from Indonesia prevailed over eighth seeds Tin Chen and Chun Han Tsai from Chinese Taipei 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 on Saturday.

Their counterparts in the girl's doubles, top seeds Miyo Kobayashi from Japan and Yi-Chi Ma from Chinese Taipei take down fifth seeds Lee and Qi-Li Ma 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 for the trophy.

The 50th edition of the meet is scheduled to be played in December, the events the only two international ones on BDTA's calender.
