IPT Lions held to stalemate as Hawks take down Army Team

The 2nd Brunei Squash League action continued on Tuesday with two matches contested at the Squash Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The Institute of Higher Learning (IPT) Lions were held to a 2-2 draw by the National Stadium team while the other match saw the Army Team lose 4-0 to the Hawks.

IPT Lions started brightly with Huzairie Ali defeating Pg Anak Hasnan Pg Anak Hj Rozanan 3-0 in the first bout, but National Stadium would made it 1-1 when Hj Muhd Sufri Hj Abdul Hamid made easy work of Mohd Kamal Bakar 3-0.

Shavez Cheema would put IPT Lions back in front after defeating Fauzi Awang 3-0 but his teammate Nur Amal Rahman would lose to Hafizah Abdullah 3-0 in the final match-up as the game ended in a draw.

In the later match, Pg Amir Pg Hj Mohd Alam was the only player to turn up for the Army team against the Hawks.

He would lose all four games against Mohd Mohsin Khan, Rosman Roslin, Wina Mohamamad and Aziz Jaafar with 3-0 scorelines.

A new unofficial team called the Loan Service team was introduced in the league last Tuesday.

They will be playing any team which does not have a game as they will be joining the next edition of the league in the future.

The next round of matches will take place on Tuesday, with Army team going up against the JIS Bulls while the Hawks will be taking on the National Stadium team.

Young Lions' Mohsin Khan, Muhd Kamaluddin Abu Bakar, Muhd Shavez Cheema and Huzairi defeated Vincent Lawrence, Catherine Carter, Chris Kruger and Phil Lowther of Jerudong International School (JIS) Tigers 3-1 in their last league match to top the table with 135 points to be crowned champions of last year's first season.

Their senior team, Bru Lions, were second on 130 points.

The league resumed for the first time this year last Tuesday, with the Hawks and National Stadium winning their respective matches.

The Hawks defeated the IPT Lions 3-1 in the first match, with Mohd Mohsin Khan taking down Huzairie Ali 3-0 in the first game to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Rosman Roslin made it 2-0 for the Hawks when he cruised past Mohd Kamal Bakar 3-1.

Shavez Cheema would pull one back for the IPT Lions after defeating Mohd Jamal Abdul 3-0, but Wina Mohamamad would seal the victory for the Hawks after beating Nur Amal Rahman 3-0 .

The National Stadium team then beat the Jerudong International School (JIS) Bulls 3-1 in the second match.
