The Aewon Cup Basketball Championship Tournament is back. The Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) is inviting all the basketball teams in the Sultanate to compete at the 2013 Aewon Cup Basketball Championship Tournament.

Slated for October 26 the tournament will be held at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat.

The competition will feature two categories men's open and men's veteran category.

It is open to all basketball teams and players in the country. Interested parties can obtain their registration forms at the BBA court.

Completed entry forms and fees of $300 per team are to be handed in before the closing date on October 20.

More information can be obtained by contacting one of the tournament's organising committee member Chua Teck Chee at 8726998.

"We are aiming for more teams to participate in the tournament this year, maybe more than ten teams," said Chua, in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.

"We are opening the registration to all basketball teams. Any team can join including the Philippine teams."

"This year also we introduced the veteran category. It will be for players who are 40 years old and above. So we hope that we will receive a good response from the public," he added.

Easyway/CK Tang, D'Babes/Sharks, Jedstar, Bukit Ladang, MK Syarikat Jazmar and Aziz Latif Company (ALC) are among the teams that competed in the tournament two years ago.

Easyway/CK Tang which consisted a number of national cagers were crowned the champions of the previous edition of the Aewon Cup Basketball Championship Tournament in 2011.

They defeated D'Babes/Sharks 71-69 in the final of the tournament at the Brunei Basketball Association court.

The national team are expected to feature in the tournament again this year.

Last month's 5th Borneo Games in Labuan, Sabah saw the national under-21 team lost all their four matches to finish bottom of the four-team table.

Meanwhile, the senior team won bronze medal in the 15th Borneo City Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament 2013 which was also held in Labuan in July.
