Local club WBC continue to dominate in Labuan tourney

Brunei continued their strong form after the second day of the Mixed Fours Lawn Bowls International Open Championship in Labuan, Malaysia yesterday.

Wisdom Lawn Bowls Club (WBC) saw both their teams through to the last-12 of the tournament held in conjunction with Malaysia's 2013 National Day at the Labuan International Lawn Bowls Arena.

WBC A's Waie Ahmad, Hjh Fatimah Hj Ibrahim, Abd Rahim Mohd Taib and Hj Amli Arrif opened their campaign with a 21-7 victory over Sabah's Santai 1, according to a press release sent by the club yesterday.

They continued their winning form by beating hosts Labuan Royale 25-13 in the second round.

They then defeated WES A of Negri Sembilan 15-7 in the knockout stage to move into the last-12.

WBC B's Nor Hanani Ibrahim, Hj Abdul Ghafar POKL DSS Hj Mohd Taha, Halifi Hj Amli and Hj Mohd Shahrul Nizam Hj Abd Ghafar followed suit and won their first two matches sending them into the knockout stages.

They then beat Santai 2 21-5 to also see them through to the final-12.

Both Brunei teams will be up against the youth teams from Terengganu coached by Ibrahim Jusoh, former Malaysia national player in the next round today.

The club made their international debut in another tournament in Labuan, February's Integration Lawn Bowls Championship. The national team won the event after beating Labuan A 18-6.
