Maziah wins on return from injury

After being away from the track for seven months Maziah Mahusin, Brunei's top female runner, made a triumphant return at the Inter-District Athletics Competition yesterday.

Despite coming back from a long injury lay off, Brunei's female Olympian managed to win 3 golds and 1 silver. "I was just going with the flow for this competition because I just recovered from an injury," she told The Brunei Times.

"I was out of training for about seven months due to a tendon injury and I only got back to it three months ago.

"I wish to see more locals come forward for the competitions and I have seen a lot of potential (at this meet).

"Some of them already train with us.

"They just need to continue with their determination and keep (up) with their consistency," added Maziah who ran for Brunei Muara.

The Inter-District Athletics Competition came to a close after two days of events yesterday.

The teams that took part in the tournament were Brunei-Muara, Belait, Tutong, Temburong, IPT, MSSS and Limbang.

Belait, Tutong, and Brunei-Muara emerged as the top three teams out of the competing seven.

Belait walked away with six gold, 13 silver and nine bronze to finish with the most medals.

Tutong had the distinction of winning the most gold medals after finishing with eight. They also won a further four silver and two bronze medals.

Meanwhile Brunei-Muara ended with seven gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Guest of honour to the ceremony was Acting deputy director of youth and sport department, Hj Rosmadi Hj Mohd Daud who officiated the closing of the tournamentand handed out the medals to some of the winners.
