All Brunei-Muara final for U-16 National League
Thursday, June 20, 2013

It will be an all Brunei-Muara final in the inaugural edition of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) TelBru Youth Under-16 National Football League.

Muara Vella FC defeated Belait A 3-0 in the semi-final last night to book their berth.

Muara Vella will meet Al-Idrus in the final after the latter defeated Brunei Darussalam Schools' Sports Council (MSSSBD) 2-1 in the other semi-final at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The date of the final match has yet to be announced by tournament organiser National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).

The scoreline did not reflect the quality of the match as Muara Vella only managed to grab the winners in extra time at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Complex.

Suhaimi Sulau, Abdul Khair Hj Basri and Haimie Anakj Nyaring all found the net for Muara Vella in the victory.

"We never gave up... that was the difference," said Muara Vella manager Mohammad Hj Tunjang in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

"It was the best game in the tournament. It was very hard to break their defence. But our players kept on trying and we were finally rewarded in extra-time.

"Belait goalkeeper (Abdul Azim Bollhassan) was brilliant throughout the game. He was the best player for them. If it was not for him, we could have score seven to eight goals," said the manager.

"Captain Ak Abdul Hafiz Pg Zahari was brilliant in the midfield tonight, Suhaimi and Haimie played very well too," he added.

"Now we turn our attention to the final and we are ready to face any team," he added.

Belait manager Hj Jailaini Hj Mohd Hussin was satisfied with his team's performances throughout the tournament.

Belait was only team from outside of the Brunei-Muara District to reach the last four,

"I am very proud of my players. To be able to reach the semi-final of the tournament is good enough," he said.

"Overall we had a very successful campaign and I would like to congratulate Muara Vella on the win. It was a great game for both teams," he added.

Muara Vella started brightly in the first-half, but they were denied at every turn as Haimie, Suhaimi, Ak Abdul Hafiz and Abdul Khair failed to place the ball past Belait A's goalkeeper.

Suhaimie put Abdul Khair through early in the second minute, but the striker was denied by Abdul Azim's fine sprawling save.

Muara Vella came close to scoring again five minutes later when Abdul Khair made a dynamic run into the Belait penalty area and forced Abdul Azim into an agile save.

The superb play of the goalkeeper was the only reason why Belait was still in contention going into the second-half.

Belait tried to bend the game back their way but the Muara Vella players were quick to close them down.

Muara Vella should have taken the lead 15 minutes into the second-half when captain Ak Abdul Hafiz put in a perfect cross for Abdul Khair but the striker shot inches wide.

The teams could not be separated after 80 minutes of regulation time, although it took just a minute into extra time for Muara Vella to break the deadlock through Suhaimi.

Suhaimi turned provider six minutes later, when he set Abdul Khair one-on-one with the goalkeeper before Haimie sealed the win with the third in the 94th minute.
