White Lion triumph over BNOC in charity futsal final

White Lion emerged as the champions of the VIP category of the Charity Futsal Tournament for Kg Setia 'A' Fire Victims after defeating Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) 2-1 in the final.

YAM Pg Muda 'Abdul 'Aleem and Mohd Mahdini found the net each for White Lion at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday. Meanwhile Col (A) Pg Hj Kamal Bashah Pg Hj Ahmad scored the only goal for BNOC in the defeat.

White Lions defeated the Ministry of Home Affairs (KHEDN) 4-0 in the semi-final, while BNOC defeated Brunei-Muara District Department (JDBM) 2-1 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, KHEDN 2013 came from behind to defeat Kota Junior 2-1 in the final of the open category. Shahremy Karim put Kota Junior ahead in the first-half before Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman and Mohammad Maiziri scored each goal for KHEDN in the second-half.

KHEDN 2013 thrashed Takat A 5-0 in the semi-final, while Kota Junior edged Takat C 3-2 in the other semi-final.

The futsal tournament was one of the many fund-raising activities organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Ministry of Home Affairs to benefit the victims of the Kg Setia 'A' fire. The other activities are zumba, golf, charity run and a cycling expedition. The fire destroyed 10 homes in Kampong Ayer on January 26 affecting 146 people.

The zumba event was held on February 16. The golf fundraising event was held at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club from March 1-3, while, the charity run and cycling expedition were held on March 9 at the Royal Wharf. More than $24,000 has been raised from all the events organised by MCYS and MoHA. Present as the guest of honour to award the winner with the prizes was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, the minister at the MCYS.
