Cueists out to make amends after blankstart
Thursday, November 17, 2011

The National cue sports team will head out to make amends with the 9-ball singles of the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games kicking off today.

The duo of Ahamd Taufiq Murni (pic) and Ak Md Saiful Azri Pg Roslee had a disappointing campaign so far after failing to progress out of the first round of the 8-ball singles last week.

They will have to put their past behind as they seek to help the Sultanate gain a medal at OPI Convention Centre in Palembang, Indonesia.

Ahmad Taufiq Murni will take to the tables first as he takes on Jundel Mazon of the Philippines at 1pm.

On the other hand, Ak Md Saiful Azri will go head to head with Nitiwat Kanjanasri of Thailand at 4pm.

The Bruneian duo had a helping hand from World No 7 Chang Jung-Lin for sparring purposes just before the competition period at the Billiards and Snooker Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas for final preparations of the Games.

Ahmad Taufiq has good medal prospects, being the World No 65 according to the World-Pool Billiards Association (WPA) rankings.

He has set his sights on a medal but will have to move on from the disappointing 7-0 loss to Singapore's Toh Lian Han in the 8-ball singles on Sunday.
