Brunei’s second batch of athletes departed Tuesday for Bangkok, Thailand to compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2025. The contingent comprises 37 members, including 28 athletes from Wushu, Pencak Silat, and Netball, alongside nine officials.
Local Wushu athlete Dayang Basma Lachkar, who trained internationally in China and Brazil this year, said her focus is on refining routines with precision, speed, and artistry. “Representing my country is an honour, and the pressure pushes me to be more disciplined and focused. I’ve learned to use pressure as motivation,” she said.
Pencak Silat athlete Muhammad Ali Saifullah bin Abdullah Muhd Suhaimi has intensified training, focusing on technique, endurance, and mental preparation. “Representing my country is a huge honour. My goal is to deliver my best, stay consistent, and make my team and country proud,” he said.
The athletes were seen off at Brunei International Airport by Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, along with senior ministry officials, National Sports Association representatives, and family members. The farewell event included a recitation of the Doa Selamat and a group photo session.
