His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council graced the closing ceremony of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 (ISG 2025) which communed with a flag parade.
The ceremony was held at the stadium of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports of Saudi Arabia and President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA).
During the ceremony, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah also met with His Highness Prince Fahad bin Jalawi, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games and His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association.
The ISG 2025, held from November 7 to 21, gathered more than 3,000 athletes from 57 countries competing in 23 sports events across five main venues around Riyadh.
The overall champion in the medal tally was Türkiye collecting 72 gold, 44 silver, and 39 bronze medals.
Uzbekistan was in second place with 29 gold, 35 silver, and 32 bronze; while Iran came in third with 29 gold, 19 silver, and 33 bronze. The host nation finished in fourth place with 18 gold, 12 silver, and 27 bronze medals.
The official closing ceremony programme featured the recitation of verses from Al-Quran, an address by the minister of sports, the national anthem, the parade of contingents, and the lowering of the Games’ flag.
In his speech, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal expressed his appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy mosques, King Salman, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the support of the organisation of ISG Riyadh 2025. He also called for the Games to serve as a bridge of unity and peace among member countries.
His Royal Highness declared the official closing of the ISG 2025 and handed over the Games’ flag to the next host, Malaysia, which will be the host of the seventh edition of the ISG in 2029. – James Kon
