His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, witnessed the fencing match of national athlete Muhammad Haziq bin Asahrin in the men’s individual sabre event at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Boulevard 01C, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The event featured 22 athletes from 12 countries, namely Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Niger, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkiye, Uzbekistan and Brunei Darussalam.
In the preliminary round, competitors were divided into four pools, with Muhammad Haziq placed in Pool 2.
The national fencer narrowly missed two victories in the pool stage. He lost 5-4 to Albahrani Ali of Saudi Arabia and was edged 5-4 by Uzbekistan’s Kodirov Zukhriddin.
In the remaining bouts, he was defeated 5-0 by Iran’s Esmaeilzadeh Pakdaman Seyed Ali and 5-2 by Azerbaijan’s Mammadov Saleh. – James Kon
