National athletes set for Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Saudi Arabia

Brunei Darussalam will send a 13-member contingent comprising seven athletes and six officials to compete in fencing, karate and weightlifting in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from Friday until November 21.

Acting Director of Youth and Sports Department Haji Mohamad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly, as the Chef De Mission of the Brunei contingent, will lead the contingent.

A national flag handing over ceremony was held yesterday at the Simpur Room of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan handed over the national flag to the Chef De Mission.

The sabda of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), who could not attend the ceremony, was delivered by Deputy President of the BDNOC Haji Mohd Zamri bin Dato Paduka Haji Hamdani.

This year’s edition marks the Sultanate’s fifth participation in the Islamic Solidarity Games, with Brunei Darussalam’s most recent participation being in 2022 at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkiye.

Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Brunei Darussalam Hani Yahya Maghrabi, members of the National Athlete Selection and Evaluation Committee, National Sports Associations, senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as the athletes’ parents and guardians were present. – James Kon
