Brunei swimmers splash to new personal best records

Brunei’s national swimmers continued their campaign for the second consecutive day at the 3rd Asian Youth Games, competing in the aquatic events at the Khalifa Sports City Swimming Pool in Manama, Bahrain.

While the team did not secure any podium finishes, several swimmers achieved new personal bests, marking encouraging progress on the regional stage.

In the girls’ 100m freestyle (heat 5), Sharmeen Mohammad Mharvin clocked 1:01.19, finishing sixth out of eight and setting a new personal record.

Meanwhile, Danniel Chan broke his personal best in the boys’ 50m backstroke (heat 2) with a time of 29.77 seconds, though he finished last in the heat. He also competed in the boys’ 100m freestyle (heat 1), being placed fourth out of eight with a time of 58.02 seconds, while teammate Dylan Wong followed closely in fifth with 59.04 seconds.

Abbey Wong registered a new personal best in the girls’ 50m backstroke (heat 5), finishing in 33.68 seconds, while Sharmeen Mharvin also contested the girls’ 50m backstroke (heat 2), posting a time of 31.09 seconds.

In golf, Awangku Muhammad Khair Zakwan bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad Zaki Al-Hakim was unable to progress to the next stage after carding 81 points in the first round, placing 37th out of 51 golfers. He improved slightly in the second round, recording 79 points to finish 36th overall. – JAMES KON
