National athlete Muhammad Abrar bin Haji Bakar @ Muhammad Bisyukri will represent the country at the 27th World Taekwondo (WT) G14 Championships to be held in Wuxi, China from October 24-30, the Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA) announced on Tuesday.

The global championship is regarded as one of the highest-level competitions in the taekwondo calendar. For Abrar, the event marks a major milestone in his athletic journey and highlights Brunei’s growing presence in the international taekwondo arena.

Head National Kyorugi coach Master Nikman Waie’s mentorship has been pivotal in elevating Abrar’s performance, guiding him to earn World Taekwondo (WT) G-ranking points – a crucial achievement that determines an athlete’s global standing based on performances at sanctioned international events.

These rankings not only reflect Abrar’s consistent competitiveness on the world stage but also play a decisive role in qualification for major global tournaments, including the Olympic Games. His progress to the World Championships is a personal milestone and historic achievement for Brunei taekwondo.

In preparation, he has undergone intensive and structured training under the guidance of Master Nikman Waie, which has been instrumental in sharpening his skills, enhancing his endurance, and building his competitive mindset to meet the global championship demands.

BDTA President Haji Tajuddin bin Haji Mohd Salleh said: “We are truly proud of Muhammad Abrar for qualifying and competing at the 27th World Taekwondo G14 Championships. His journey is a shining example of what discipline, perseverance, and passion can achieve.

“Abrar carries not just the Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association’s hopes, but the hopes of the entire taekwondo athletes as he competes against the very best in the world. We have full confidence in his abilities and believe that his participation will inspire the next generation of taekwondo athletes in Brunei.”
