HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday made his debut at the Asian Indoor Games when he competed in the nine-ball pool singles event at the Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh.
The sole athlete to fly the flag for Brunei in cue sports, the Crown Prince eventually fell 1-9 to Indonesia's Muhammad Bewi Simanjuntak.
Besides cue sports, Brunei will also be participating in pencak silat and wushu.
Ten silat exponents are representing the Sultanate in Hanoi while wushu is being represented by two athletes.
Before leaving for Hanoi, national silat coach Suhartono had said that the team hoped to win medals at the third edition of the Asian Indoor Games.
Brunei silat exponents will begin their campaign in the seni and tanding events today.
The wushu events will only start tomorrow.
After three days of competition, China lead the table with 11 gold, six silver and four bronze medals while the hosts, Vietnam, have 11 gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
Coming in third place are Kazakhstan with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
Athletes from some 40 countries and regions are participating in more than 20 sports ranging from traditional athletics to regional specialities like Central Asian kurash, as well as less conventional disciplines like lion dancing and computer games in the Hanoi Games.
