Brunei Darussalam marked the start of their much-anticipated campaign in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) with a debut in the obstacle race event at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia yesterday.
National athletes Mohd Hasnal Husna bin Ahmad and Awangku Muhd Nur’Nazirul Mubin bin Pengiran Roslan competed in the men’s obstacle course racing (OCR) 100-metre individual event.
Awangku Muhd Nur’Nazirul Mubin was ranked ninth with a fastest time while Md Hasnal Husna finished 10th.
The Philippines are in course of bagging four medals as national duo Mark Julius Malabriga Rodelas and Kevin Jeffrey Dador Pascua led the way in the medal round.
Cambodia’s Ol Saoheng and Malaysia’s Yoong Wei Theng also advanced to the medal round.
This year’s participation marked Brunei’s first appearance in obstacle race since the sport was introduced in the Philippines in 2019.
Each athlete was given an opportunity of two runs to improve their times with the top four advancing to the medal round.
