“Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation is looking at organising competitions within the country, aside from participating in overseas competitions, to unearth new potential talents in wushu and to provide a good platform to train local referees and technical staff,” said federation’s newly elected President Lim Boon Hwa during the installation ceremony of its 6th Executive Committee for 2023-2026 at The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.

The federation president also recalled the achievements of wushu athletes in the past years where “during the 10th Asia Junior Wushu Championships, organised in the Sultanate in August 2019, national wushu athletes obtained four gold, two silver and one bronze.
“This was followed by achievement in the 30th SEA Games at the Philippines where the athletes won one gold, four silvers and one bronze, the best achievement in the country’s history of participating the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games”.
In 2020, he said, “Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, our wushu athletes continued to train and won one gold medal during the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in May 2022.
“In July 2022, our wushu athletes won one gold, one silver in the World Games in the United States (US), a first success for our wushu athletes in the World Games.
“In November, young wushu athletes brought glory by winning a bronze medal in the World Junior Wushu championship in Indonesia.
“This year, our athletes have been training intensively for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in May, the 11th Asia Junior Wushu Championship in Hong Kong in August, the 19th Asia Sports in Hangzhou, China in September and the 16th World Wushu championship in November in the US.”
The newly elected executive committee include Dr Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman as the deputy president with five vice presidents – Goh Kim Tian, Woo Chun Heng, Lim Ming Kiat, Soon Seng Lee and Tan Kai Teck.
Ang Ju Ming was elected the Secretary General and will be assisted by two vice secretary general – Li Hui and Dora Madai.
Lim Ting Chai was elected the Treasurer and Tan San Hock as Deputy Treasurer.
Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam Wang Haitao and officials from the MCYS were also present.
