BRUNEI Darussalam national men’s hockey team narrowed the score gap for a third consecutive match after restricting unbeaten Taipei in an 8-0 defeat in the Men’s Asian Hockey Challenge 2017 at the Theinphyu Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar yesterday.

Taipei, crowned champions yesterday, were arguably the most difficult team of all as they had shown that they were a class above the rest.

Myanmar and Hong Kong attempted to take points off Taipei but to no avail as they demonstrated their might in the second tier of Asian hockey competition.

However, the national team, buoyed by the improved performances against Hong Kong and Myanmar, refused to concede without a fight and lowered the margin they received in the earlier round when their defence was breached 11 times.

Brunei may not have scored a goal in the entire competition but having gained exposure in the six-game tournament they will go back to the drawing board and look for further work on the field.

Meanwhile, hosts Myanmar ensured second place in the table after trouncing Hong Kong 5-0 in the other round robin match.
