THE XXI Commonwealth Games 2018 (CG2018) will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia between April 4 and 15, 2018. In conjunction to the games and the tradition that have been embedded, Queen’s Baton Relay started on Commonwealth Day, March 13 2017, at Buckingham Palace when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II placed her message inside the baton.
Since then, the baton has been passed from one commonwealth nation to the other to celebrate the Commonwealth Diversity, inspire community pride and excite people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.
The Queen’s Baton started its journey in Pakistan on September 29 and the baton has been continued to inspire communities across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. As one of the Commonwealth Nations, the Gold Coast 2018 Queen’s Baton is also set to settle in Brunei Darussalam between October 21 to 25 before moving to Singapore and later heading to its final Commonwealth region, Oceania.
The land of Abode and Peace will gather communities and 119 athletes (including Olympians, Para-athletes and those who took part in 29th SEA Games) across different sports to participate in The GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay tomorrow. The GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay will take place along Bandar Seri Begawan and Kampong Ayer between 7am and 9am.
According to a press release, the GC2018 Queen’s Baton relay in Brunei will start with the hand-over of the Queen’s Baton by Commonwealth Games XXI representatives to guest of honour Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at Mercu Dirgahayu 60 Tahun landmark. The Queen’s Baton will be handed to different associations across different checkpoints.
At the last checkpoint, the last runner of the GC2018 Queen’s Baton relay will once again hand-over the baton to the minister before presenting the GC2018 Queen’s Baton to the next country recipient country, Singapore. A speech by the representative of the XXI Commonwealth Games will also be delivered during this auspicious event.
