BRUNEI’S 19-year-old Muis swam his fastest 50m breaststroke heat, breaking his own national record with the time 30.73s at the 17th FINA Swimming World Championships in Duna Arena, Budapest on Tuesday.

Both Muhammad Isa (Muis) Ahmad and Christian Nazario Nikles are competing in two events each, with Muis competing in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke and Christian in the 50m and 100m Freestyle. Muis completed his 100m breaststroke last Sunday with a time of 1:08.10s, just 0.02s off his own national record of 1:07.90s. They are both accompanied by Head Coach, Eric Landa.

“It is a great start to this World Championships for Team Brunei. Both swimmers have been preparing for this championship even in the midst of their studies in England,” said Honorary Secretary, Ang Beng Siong who is also in Budapest to attend the FINA General Congress.

“Christian will be in action for the 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle tomorrow. I wish him all the best,” said Ang.

Meanwhile, Harjimmey Zainal has been selected by FINA (International Swimming Federation) to be one of the International Technical Officials to officiate in the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
