Brunei Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) secretary-general Maj (R) Wan Mohd Tambrin Shah has said that Brunei will be sending both men's and women's teams to the 1st Southeast Asia's Softball Cup this year, with the sides made up of the best players from the clubs that competed in the leagues and tournaments that BASBA have organised. Brunei will be taking part in the 1st South East Asia Softball Cup this year.
The 1st South East Asia Men's Cup will be held in Makassar, Indonesia, from Sept 4-6, while the 1st South East Asia Women's Cup is slated for Aug 29-31 in Johor, Malaysia. The 1st South East Asia Softball Cup is one of the many events in the International Softball Federation (ISF) calendar this year, and Brunei will be sending both their men's and women's teams to the tournaments.
"With the players that we have in the team now we are currently focusing on the 1st South East Asia Softball Cup which will be held in August and September," said Brunei Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) secretary-general Maj (R) Wan Mohd Tambrin Shah in a recent interview with The Brunei Times.
"The boys will go to Makassar, Indonesia in September, while the ladies will be travelling to Johor, Malaysia at the end of August for the tournament," he confirmed. According to Indonesian Amateur Baseball and Softball Association's (PERBASASI) official website, six countries - Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei - will be vying for top honours in the men's category of the tournament.
There are no updates on the women's category yet. The Indonesian team have named all their 39 players for both tournaments and the team will be guided by coach Enjol Rachmansyah.
"For Brunei, we will select the best players from the clubs that competed in the leagues and tournaments that we (BASBA) have organised," continued Wan Mohd Tambrin. BASBA recently have organised the 2014 President's Cup at the softball pitch at the Polo Club in Jerudong.
PLK Zombies won the tournament after defeating the Gunners 3-0 in the men's final last Sunday. Chikara were crowned champions in the women's edition of the tournament after edging Divas 19-18 in the final.
Five teams - PLK Zombies, Black Arrows, Gunners, Knights and Wanderers - featured in the tournament this year. Only Chikara, Pasadena and Divas competed in the women's category which kicked-off on June 14.
The President's Cup is a yearly tournament organised by BASBA and was first held in 2006.
