I-CYBER kicked-off their 1st Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) League campaign with a 79-59 win over Syarikat Bukit Ladang at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Meanwhile Mochi-Each A Cup (MEAC) defeated Yuan Thong Enterprise (YTE) 77-65 in the tournament's opener held earlier last night. According to a previous report in The Brunei Times, the league is a step towards preparing the Sultanate for future FIBA (International Basketball Association) international competitions.
FIBA and FIBA Asia expected the BBA to organise the national league when FIBA Sports Director of Sport and Eligibility Lubomir Kotleba came to the Sultanate in November 2012. Six teams are vying for top honours in the league, joining MEAC and YTE are Le Doux Patisserie, I-Cyber, Syarikat Bukit Ladang and DMC Enterprise. Two matches will be held every Friday and Sunday until all teams complete two rounds
The top-four will advance into the semi-finals of the competition whereby the crossover matchups will then be contested in a best-of-three series. The MEAC are the favourites to win the title having won the last tournament organised by the BBA, winning 2013 Aewon Cup with a 93-65 demolition of the Titans in the final last October.
