The national netball team will be going to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, today to play two games against Sabah's Under-21 and senior team as they prepare for the 9th Asian Netball Championship in Singapore in September.
Eighteen players were picked after the selection process which started in March - with the squad consisting of players from the existing team, youth players and local clubs.
"Congratulations to all the players who are selected to be in the national team to go to Sabah and I hope that they will take this opportunity to do well and gain the trust of the relevant authorities," said Brunei Netball Association (BNA) vice-president Lt Col (Rtd) Hjh Wan Shahlimar Hj Suhail yesterday.
"I want all the players to show their passion, commitment and discipline while they are there, and at the same time they must work very hard and show our opponents that netball is excelling in our country.
"Take this time to learn and interact with the players from Sabah, and at the same time share with them techniques and knowledge.
"When we train here in Brunei we are only playing and learning from each other, but this time we are able to expand and learn from our opponents from Sabah," Lt Col (Rtd) Hjh Wan Shahlimar added during the press conference held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
he team will be led by national coach Thilaka Jinadasa and assistant manager Starein Anne Jugah. They also will be accompanied by five officers from the BNA, two local referees and one physiotherapist. Hjh Wan Shahlimar then went on to hand the country's flag to the team leader Dhia Syuhada.
The national team will return on Monday and will play all their games at the Netball Court at the Borneo Sports Arena in Kolombong.
