DPMM FC are looking to strengthen their ties with the Sports School to help produce quality football players that may one day lace up for the club.

DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean said that a tight bond with the school is much needed for the club to identify and provide support for such potential players.

“First of all I think the easiest thing to see is one of their own. It’s like I said in the theatre, (DPMM FC midfielder Azwan Ali Rahman) sat in the same seats and he’s now playing for us... One of our best players representing us, representing the country,” said Kean. “You know that should be a massive motivation to all the students.”

“We wanted to do a promotion and offer the lads tickets to the next match but we also wanted to establish a strong link because... we don’t have our own academy as such but we’ve got really strong relationships and co-operation with the Sports School.

“Probably within the crowd today are some of our future players, so the closer we can keep that relationship the more we can give.

“Hopefully we can help the coaches and maintain our strong relationship,” said the coach during DPMM FC’s visit to the Sports School in Berakas to share their knowledge and experience with 34 Under-15 players yesterday.

The students were treated to a thirty minute session where they questioned the DPMM FC players and coach Kean about the game and how to overcome challenges faced on the field.

The young footballers, comprising a mix of players from the Sports School and Sports School Council football team, also received tickets to attend DPMM FC’s sixth Singapore League match on Sunday.

They will get to watch DPMM FC play at home against the Young Lions at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas at 8.15pm.

“We gained a lot of knowledge and things that we didn’t know, we learnt,” Ak Yura said.

“I have watched them play and DPMM FC are our favourite team, it makes us proud and the country proud,” he added.

Asked if he wanted to one day play for DPMM FC, Ak Yura replied, “Of course, that’s a dream for us.”
