The National Badminton Championship Brunei Darussalam 2014 continued yesterday with more quarter-finals actions.
Contested at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas, Mohd Arif Hj Mohd Serudin booked his place in the boy's single semis after a hard fought 2-1 (21-9, 17-21, 21-18) win against Mohd Mazhadir Abdullah.
"I almost lost it at the end of the set, but I pushed through and earned the victory in the end. it was a very intense match," said Mohd Arif in an interview with The Brunei Times after his match.
"I always told myself. if I can make it right, then I am right, but if I can't make it right, I am still alright and Alhamdulillah today I made it right," he said.
"I will play against Mohd Nazirul Syahiran in the semi-final, and It is going to be a very tough match as we have trained together to prepare for last month Pertamina Cup in Indonesia," said Mohd Arif.
Mohd Arif only managed to reach the quarter-final in the said tournament.
Mohd Nazirul defeated Mohd Raia Iman 2-1 (21-16, 22-24, 21-15) to set a semi-final date with Mohd Arif.
The other quarter-final matches in the boy's single category saw Aiman Hafizul defeated Mahyuddin Mohammad 2-1 (19-21, 21-13, 21-18). Aiman will meet Mohd Nazirul Hazwan in the semi-final, the later beat Mohd Syazani Aiman 2-1 (21-19, 13-21, 21-18).
Yesterday also saw action in boys' doubles and men's doubles quarter-finals. The competition attracted a total of 356 shuttlers from across the nation.
