Brother's, Leonardo and Jason Koh walked away with two gold medals each at the Brunei Junior Table Tennis Championship yesterday.
Leonardo claimed his first gold in the boys' doubles open, pairing up with Asyrani Suhardi.
The duo defeated Jason and Wafi Suhardi in straight sets, scoring 11-6, 11-9, 11-7.
Brothers Ak Abd Basheer Pg Hj Md Noor and Ak Abd Rasheed finished with bronze.
Leonardo picked up his second gold when he faced doubles partner Asyrani in the Under-18 boys' singles final, winning with a score of 6-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 17-15.
In third place was Hifdzullah Matali.
Younger brother Jason picked up his first gold of the day when he paired up with Hong Hui Qin in the mixed doubles.
The two outlasted opponents Asyrani and Lyana Hii 8-10, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 for the title.
Fiona Hii and Luqman Hii finished in third at the Sports Complex in Menglait.
Jason won his second gold in the Under-15 boys' singles, outplaying his doubles partner Wafi 6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 in the final.
Luqman walked away with third.
Fiona was the champion of the girls' singles open after she defeated Qin 5-11, 11-2, 12-10, 9-11, 17-5.
Third place was picked up by Lydia Hii.
Ak Basheer secured himself the gold in the Under-12 boys' singles after his 11-7, 12-14, 11-8, 11-13, 11-6 win over Ak Sufi Pg Suffian.
Khairuddin Omar Nasir rounded up the final spot of the podium.
Brunei Amateur Table Tennis Association (BATTA) Secretary General Anthony Liew told The Brunei Times, "Basically we are trying to bring the (junior paddlers) together after their training... we are also preparing for the June 16-21 Southeast Asian (SEA) Junior Table Tennis Competition that Brunei will be hosting."
"This is us testing the waters, so to say," he said. "Some of them have done well and some of them have not done as well. We may have to rethink some of the players that are going to take part in the tournament," said the secretary general, adding that they have already selected 14 core players.
"The older players in the competition like Jason, Wafi, Leonardo and Asyrani are maintaining their play and emerging in the finals.
"There are no new faces emerging in the Under-18 and Under-15 but the Under-12... yes.
"Some of the Bunut kids, Ak Abd Rasheed and Ak Abd Basheer are giving those who are regular in training like Ak Sufi Pg Suffian and Khairuddin a good run," said Liew.
The two boys from Bunut eventually defeated the two during the third place match in the boys' doubles open.
"These kids are part of the core team now but they won't be taking part in the tournament this year because they're still too young with the SEA Junior being Under-15 and Under-18," added Liew.
