Thursday, October 3, 2013

Three national cyclists faced another rain soaked trail in the 45km Stage 2 of the Langkawi International Mountain (MTB) Bike Challenge (LIMBC) yesterday.

Raihaan Abd Aziz, Muhammad Rafiuddin Zikara and Mohammad Nurjamri Johari powered on through the muddy terrain to advance to Stage 3 today.

Their results could not be obtained as of press time.

Raihaan and Rafiuddin have been using the tour as one of their warm-up events leading to December's Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.

"We all had to go through a muddy course again today and we spent a long time pushing the bikes through," Raihaan said in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.

"It was hard for me but Rafiuddin did well with his running and pushing through to gain an advantage," he said.

"The 81km Stage 3 trail that we will be taking on tomorrow is going to be hard for sure with more pushing and climbing," added Raihaan.

Sweden's Fabian Giger, winner of LIMBC 2012 was first to cross the line during yesterday's Stage 2

Stage 1 leader Emil Lindren of Sweden and Czech Republic's Kristian Hynek followed suit in second and third respectively.

Giger finished in 46th place during Stage 1 after encountering technical problems to his bike.

Riding in first place in the women's open category was America's Lea Davison, followed by Poland's Maja Wloszczowska and Germany's Adelheid Morath.

In the men's master category Great Britain's Nicholas Craig placed first, followed by Italy's Marzio Deho and Netherland's Patrick Jansen.

New Zealander Derek David Milne was the top rider in the senior men's master category, followed by Denmark's Mads Bodker and Thailand's Jirawat Chulak.
