National sprinter Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi's participation at the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games came to an early end on Wednesday.

Ak Hafiy ran a time of 49.94 seconds during his heat to only finish in 5th place.

HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, president of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), consented to watch the athletics events at the Jaka Baring Athletics Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia on the day.

"In the first 30-200m Ak Hafiy started with a speedy pace, driving his knees and arms through to then continue at a constant pace to the end," said a press release issued on Wednesday.

"His weakness was not controlling his excitement within the first 200m, which led to him tightening up heading to the finish line.

"He has shown that he is a very determined athlete and is eager to reach his goals," it added.

HRH also consented to oversee the development of the athletes' training for wushu and bestowed words of advice to the Bruneian athletes at the Jaka Baring Gymanstics Hall, Palembang City.

Earlier in the day, the BDNOC president also tracked the development of the Sultanate's taekwondo athletes and delivered motivational words to them at the Sumsel House Building, Palembang City.

Mohammad Adi Sya'rani and his brother Mohammad Sufi Shayiran are joined by Lee Yingshi as Brunei's three wushu exponents whilst Mohamad Fathullah Mohamad Taib and Nurulain Md Ja'afar will represent the nation in taekwondo.

Both sports held their training sessions yesterday.

The wushu athletes spent their allotted time training on stamina exercises and technique performances at their competition venue, Jaka Baring Gymnastics Hall.

The taekwondo squad focused on their kicking and did technique exercises at their competition venue, Sriwijaya Promotion Center.

Mohammad Sufi will start his campaign tomorrow in the Taolu Nan Quan whilst Lee and Mohammad Adi start their respective disciplines on Sunday.

Both Mohamad Fathullah and Nurulain will begin competing Monday.

His Royal Highness, meanwhile, departed for Brunei yesterday after spending five days in Palembang.

HRH was in Indonesia to provide support to the national athletes taking part in the competition.

Present at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport to see off His Royal Highness were Brunei's Ambassador to Indonesia Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Mahmud Hj Saidin and Chef de Mission (CDM) Pengiran Anak Mohd Sofian Pengiran Anak Haji Ibrahim.
