The third Brunei Darussalam Track and Field Open Championship is officially open for registration.
The championships are scheduled to take place from October 25-27 at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
Registration forms can be obtained from the BAA office at No 4, Pejabat Persatuan Sukan, Concourse Stadium Negara Hassanal Bolkiah Brunei, Berakas.
Forms can also be obtained from any Youth and Sports (JBS) branches in all four districts.
Completed forms must be handed in to the BAA Office or JBS branches by October 7 before 4.30pm.
The two categories available to pick from are the Under-16 (1997-2001) and Open.
For the Under-16, there will be 11 events to choose from for both male and female to total 22 gold medals.
The Open category will host 18 events for the men and 17 for the women totalling 37 gold medals.
Each athlete are allowed to take part in three individual events of two track and one field or vice versa.
They may also take part in the two team events.
The Brunei Athletics Association (BAA) have invited Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia and Singapore to join.
As of yesterday, Malaysia and Sri Lanka have accepted the offer.
Sri Lanka took part in the Brunei Open during the previous edition last year.
All foreign teams will be provided accommodation and transport for five athletes and one official from October 24-28.
Vice president of the BAA Kifli Hj Jaafar told The Brunei Times, "It will be a good experience for the local athletes to go up against the foreign teams.
"They will be able to learn from their techniques, quality, discipline and technical performance as well as see the standard they compete at.
"Most of the athletes in Brunei don't get the chance to compete overseas because we choose the best to represent the country.
"From this, they will finally get the opportunity to test their skills against other nationalities," said Kifli.
BBA Secretary General Yahya Sirat confirmed Maziah Mahusin (400m), Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi (400m) and Abdul Hakim (high jump) as potential candidates for the upcoming SEA games in Myanmar during a press conference yesterday.
"So far the three athletes are still being monitored with their performance," said Kifli.
"The Brunei Open will help us see where they are at.
"Hopefully they can keep up their standard and try to improve," added Kifli.
