The Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) yesterday announced that the country's copper petal from the London Olympics Cauldron will be put on display for one month at the lobby of the Brunei Museum in Jalan Kota Batu, Bandar Seri Begawan from January 23.

The innovative Cauldron was made of 204 petals which represented the participating nations at the July 27-August 12 event, and Brunei's petal was officially unveiled at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas last Saturday.

Mounted on stems, the copper petal-like bowls were raised to merge into one huge unique flame which was lit throughout the tournament.

Designer Thomas Heatherwick said the Olympic cauldron represented the "coming together in peace" of each of the 204 competing countries and wanted each nation to be given its petal to take away after the Olympics as a memento.

"For Brunei Darussalam the petal is an iconic symbol of our participation in the London 2012 Olympic Games," said BNOC is a press statement yesterday.

The petal can be viewed during operating hours on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm, Friday from 9am to 11:30am and from 2:30pm to 5pm and Saturday from 9:45am to 5pm.
