Md Yazid Yatimi Yusof did Brunei proud once again after he bagged the bronze medal in the men's shot put event at the 13th Malaysia Games (Sukma) with a throw of 13.61m.

Once regarded as the golden boy of Bruneian sports, Md Yazid had been suffering from an injury to his right knee which he picked up while competing in the National Sports Festival (PSK) in June 2008 and had been on a dry run since he won the bronze medal in the men's discus event during the 2007 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Korat, Thailand.

Md Yazid's personal best in the shot put event was his 14.28m throw, also in the 2007 SEA Games.

Adi Aliffuddin Hussin struck gold for Terengganu after he bettered his own national record with a throw of 17.31m. His old throw was at 17.18m at the Laos SEA Games.

This is the fourth consecutive time that Adi Aliffuddin had won the event dating back to Sukma 2004 in Negri Sembilan.

Mohamad Alif Hanif Mohd Afandi also from Terengganu took the silver with a throw of 13.92m.

Md Yazid's medal now brings the Sultanate's total medal tally to six bronze at the June 10-19 tournament. This year's medal haul is a stark improvement to their previous outing when they only managed to bring home two bronzes.

Brunei's karate exponents were the first to strike, winning two bronze medals last week.

Mohd Nabil Abd Malik won Brunei's first medal of the competition when he awarded joint bronze with Selangor's Poovanesvaran Kanesan in the men's below 75kg kumite last Saturday.

It is a hat-trick for the 22-year-old after he finished on the podium in 2006 and 2008.

Ampuan Nur Haziqah Hasyimah Ampuan got her bronze medal finishing third in the women's below 68kg kumite event on Sunday.

For Pencak Silat, Brunei secured two more bronze medals through Md Azril Mohd Ali and Nurul Amal Maziah Ibrahim Noor in their respective Class A (45-50kg) categories on Monday.

Md Azril was denied a championship berth when he lost 5-0 to Melaka's Mohd Taufek Abd Razak in the semi-finals that saw him settling for bronze.

On the other hand, Nurul Amal Maziah lost to Noor Issmiziana Abdullah of Kedah 5-0 in the semi-finals that got her the bronze.

The only other medal came from the national cycling team after they finished with the bronze in the 168.5km team road race.

Federal Territories currently top the table at the 10-day tournament with 29 gold, 27 silver and 26 bronze medals.

Selangor follow closely behind with 25 gold, 26 silver and 26 bronze medals. Kedah are in third with 25 gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals.
