His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), reminded athletes and officers representing Brunei Darussalam at the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Hanoi, Vietnam, to maintain discipline and uphold the good name of the Sultanate.

His Royal Highness made this call in a sabda during the flag handover ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam contingent yesterday.

The contingent was also told to stay vigilant and to safeguard against COVID-19 by adhering to the standard operating procedures issued by the organiser of the SEA Games.

His Royal Highness thanked the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), for lending its support to the BDNOC.

Brunei Darussalam is sending a 39-member contingent comprising 16 officers and 23 athletes, who will compete in four sporting events: e-sports (10 male athletes), karatedo (two male and three female athletes), pencak silat (one male and three female athletes) and wushu (four male athletes).

His Royal Highness said, “I am confident that all selected athletes have been informed of the regulations for representing the country, particularly the anti-doping regulations.”

Athletes’ participation is based on detailed assessments and evaluations made by the executive committee, and thus, “we must be proud of this and remain fully committed to bringing glory to Brunei Darussalam at the 31st SEA Games”, His Royal Highness said.

His Royal Highness congratulated the athletes, national sport associations and coaches, and expressed gratitude to parents for their continued support and guidance.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and ministerial officials also attended the ceremony at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
