Brunei contingent departs for 2026 Commonwealth Games

A six-member Brunei Darussalam contingent has departed for Glasgow, Scotland, to represent the Sultanate at the 23rd Commonwealth Games 2026.

The contingent comprises two athletics athletes, one weightlifting athlete, an administrative officer, an athletics coach and a weightlifting coach.

The team was seen off at Brunei International Airport by Director of Youth and Sports Dayang Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, who conveyed her best wishes and encouragement to the athletes ahead of their competitions.

Also present at the send-off ceremony were officers from the Department of Youth and Sports, representatives from the National Sports Associations, and family members of the athletes.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Doa Selamat led by Awang Haji Ahmad Yaardy bin Haji Abdul Karim, followed by a motivational address to the national contingent and a group photo session.

Brunei’s weightlifting representative will begin competition on Sunday, July 26, at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo, while the athletics athletes will compete from Monday, July 27, at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium.
