Brunei Darussalam will be sending an eight-member contingent comprising three male athletes and one female athlete to compete in two sports – Beach Athletics and Beach Teqball at the upcoming 6th Asian Beach Games 2026.
The Games will take place in Sanya, China from April 22 to 30.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, as the guest of honour, officiated the national flag handover ceremony to the Brunei Darussalam contingent Thursday at Bilik Simpur of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Mohamad in his welcoming remarks said, “Reflecting on Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the 5th Asian Beach Games held in 2016 in Da Nang, Vietnam, from September 24 to October 3, 2016, Brunei competed in only one sport, the Beach Sepak Takraw.
“Alhamdulillah, Brunei succeeded in winning a bronze medal. It is hoped that this achievement will provide motivation and strengthen the spirit of the athletes to continuously improve their performance and compete strongly in a healthy manner.”
For this edition of the Games, Brunei will participate in two sports – athletics and teqball, by sending a contingent comprising one Chef de Mission, four athletes, two coaches, and one Head of Secretariat. The minister expressed his confidence that the athletes will give their very best to bring honour to the nation and serve as role models for the younger generation to remain active in sports.
He reminded the athletes to remain vigilant against the use of any unapproved or questionable medication or supplements.

This marks the country’s sixth participation in the Asian Beach Games, reflecting the country’s commitment to supporting women’s involvement in sports and promoting gender equality in competitive athletics.
Ambassador-designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochu, members of the National Athletes Selection and Evaluation Committee, National Sports Association, senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the athletes’ families were also present. – JAMES KON
