His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) Honorary Life President and President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, graced the first meeting of the SEAGF Council for the 2025–2027 term in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The meeting focused on agendas and preparations for the 34th SEA Games, set to take place in Malaysia from September 18 to 29, 2027.
According to reports, next year’s SEA Games will feature stricter anti-doping measures as SEAGF moves to become a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code signatory.
SEAGF President Norza Zakaria said at a post-meeting press conference that the initiative, led by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), will ensure the Malaysia SEA Games are fully WADA-compliant, enhancing the integrity and global standing of the biennial competition.
He added, “We are pleased that there were zero doping cases during the Thailand SEA Games in December and aim to build on that by becoming a WADA signatory.
“The decision was unanimously endorsed by SEAGF members.
“As a WADA signatory, there will be a defined sampling size, perhaps 10 per cent or more, to be detailed later.”
The meeting also confirmed that a total of 38 sporting events will be contested across four host cities: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor and Pulau Pinang. Featured sports include Wushu, Athletics, Aquatics, Sepak Takraw, Netball, E-Sports, Karate-do, Pencak Silat, Equestrian and others. – James Kon
