The Brunei wushu team departed the country recently to participate in the 10th World Junior Wushu Championships in Tianjin, China, aiming to secure qualification for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games.
The Brunei team comprising two coaches, a referee and six athletes, will compete against rising wushu stars from around the world. The team is led by head coach Li Hui, alongside coach Zhao Chunjie. The referee is Ang Lu Guan.
In the female ‘A’ group, Lim Wanxin will compete in Changquan and Gunshu; Lauren Emily Chua Yu Qing will take part in Taijiquan, Taijijian and Taijishan; and Emilia Chua Yee Qing will compete in Taijiquan, Taijijian and Taijishan.
The female ‘B’ group athlete is Meagan Marie Keasberry, who will participate in the 42-style Taijiquan and 42-style Taijijian events.
In the female ‘C’ group, Hannah Tan Zi Lin will compete in the 24-style Taijiquan and Taijijian events, while male ‘B’ group athlete Qayden Yii Ming Yi will compete in Changquan and Daoshu.
According to Li Hui, “This championship is not only a high-level event for youth martial arts worldwide, but also plays a crucial role in qualification for the Youth Olympic Games, bringing together some of the most promising young athletes from around the world. The Brunei wushu team’s participation is both a test of their training and a key opportunity to secure qualification. We hope our athletes will compete with determination, strive for excellent results, and bring honour to the country.”
