National wushu athlete Adi Salihin earned Brunei’s first medal at this year’s World Games in Chengdu, China, when he collected the silver medal in the men’s duo event of Nanquan and Nangun.
Adi Salihin’s powerful and vigorous movements in the Nanquan event earned him a score of 9.74 points, temporarily ranking him second. In the evening’s Nangun competition, he performed outstandingly and scored 9.74 points. His total score of 19.456 secured the silver medal.
Meanwhile, Basma Lachkar could not emulate her gold medal performance from the 2022 World Games and was placed fourth in her duo event of Taijiquan and Taijijian.
Basma Lachkar performed flawlessly in the women’s Taijiquan, successfully completing all required jumps and scoring 9.72 points to rank third. In the evening’s Taijijian competition, she scored 9.673 due to a balance mistake. Her total score of 19.393 placed her fourth.
National Wushu Coach Li Hui and Coach Zhao Chunjie said they were very satisfied with the achievements and performances of the athletes on the first day of the competition against top athletes from around the world. – James Kon
