Brunei wushu team China bound for junior Asian championship

A 10-member Brunei national wushu squad has departed for Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China to compete in the 12th Asian Junior Wushu Championships, which runs from today until July 29.

The team is led by head coach Li Hui and coach Zhao Chunjie, with Ang Lu Guan accompanying the delegation as one of the official judges during the four-day competition.

Brunei will be represented across several categories: Abel @ Lim Wee Yuen will compete in the Under-18 Nanquan, Nandao, and Nangun events; Quintus Yii Ming Jun will take part in the Uner-15 Nanquan, Nandao, and Nangun categories; Samuel Ong Yong Jun is entered in the Under-12 Taijiquan and Taijijian disciplines; Lim Wan Xin is set for the Under-18 Changquan, Gunshu, and Duilian events; Bella Lee Tseen Qin will partner Belle Lee Tseen Se in the Duilian event; Meagan Keasberry and Lauren Emily Chua Yu Qing will feature in the Under-15 Taijiquan and Taijijian competitions; and Gwen Lee Yen Xi with Hailey Tse Tow in the Under-12 Changquan, Jianshu and Qiangshu events.

“Our aim is to give these young athletes valuable exposure and the chance to grow through high-level competition,” said head coach Li Hui.

“We are very grateful for the strong support from the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam.”

The Asian Junior Wushu Championships serve as a platform to nurture young talent across the region. Brunei’s continued participation reflects its commitment to building experience and accelerating the development of future national athletes. – JAMES KON
