Brunei Darussalam captured a second bronze medal on the final day of the 1st Asian Cup of Wushu 2025 yesterday, following Basma Lachkar’s performance in the women’s Tai Chi Sword event.
With Basma’s bronze, the Brunei wushu team concluded its campaign with a total of one silver and two bronze medals, earning high praise from the Asian wushu community for the rapid progress of the Sultanate’s standards in the sport.
Basma’s performance earned a high score of 9.666 to claim the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, in the men’s Nan Gun event, Adi Salihin narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in fifth place with a score of 9.61.
National wushu coach Li Hui said, “After this competition, we will summarise our experiences, learn from others’ strengths to improve our weaknesses, and identify areas for improvement. We will be training hard to prepare for the upcoming World Games.”
He added, “I constantly remind our athletes that once they step off the podium, everything starts anew; victory should not breed arrogance, and defeat should not lead to discouragement. There is no shortcut to achieving honour; only continuous effort and dedication will do.” – James Kon
