National committee holds Olympics post-mortem

The National Athlete Selection and Assessment Executive Committee held a post-mortem meeting for the 33rd Olympic Games on Tuesday to pinpoint areas of further improvement for national athletes.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) attended the meeting.

The meeting took place at the Conference room of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The 33rd Olympic games, which took place in Paris, France, saw the nation’s athletes competed in swimming and athletics.

National sprinter Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid competed in the 100m, while Hayley Wong Ann Yue competed in the women’s 50-metre freestyle and Zeke Chan Zhi Yue competed in the men’s 100-metre Backstroke.

Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid finished his race with a time of 10.86s (Season Best) however did not break his personal best and national records. Hayley Wong Ann Yue completed her race with a time of 28.52s and also did not break her personal best and national records while Zeke Chan Zhi Yue recorded a time of 1:00.38s in his event and didn’t break her personal best and national records.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad said, “Despite not winning any medals, national athletes can make use of the experience of competing against athletes from countries who have physical advantages and high achievement in the international level, as a challenge to double their efforts improving performance for upcoming regional tournaments.

The Minister added “These athletes are still young and still have a lot of time as well as opportunities to improve their performance by increasing efforts through consistent training. This experience should be a motivation for them to keep on trying and achieve success in the future.” – James Kon
