His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) led the support of the Brunei Darussalam national contingent during the Paris 2024 Olympics Games after watching the swimming event at the Paris La Defense Arena in Paris, France last Saturday.
The president was in the stands to watch national swimmer Zeke Chan compete in the men’s 100-metre backstroke where he recorded a time of 1:00:38.
He finished fifth out of six entries in his heats during his maiden appearance in the Olympics.
The national record for 100-metre backstroke currently stands at 59.61s.
According to the National Coach Wu Na, Zeke attended an intensive month-long training camp at a Singapore club in mid-June.
After returning from Singapore, he continued his pre-race training until the competition.
She said, “The main purpose of my training plan for the last ten days before the race was to maintain his training ability and adjust his physical function and the speed of the technical movements required for the competition.”
During the trip, His Royal Highness also attended a dinner invitation hosted by the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to France Dayang Hajah Rakiah binti Haji Abdul Hamid at her residence.
Also present were the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Mohamad; Dayang Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim Chef De Mission of the Brunei Darussalam National Contingent as well as secretariat officers.
Prior to dinner, the minister also toured the Paris Olympic Village and took the opportunity to provide advice to athletes, coaches, and officials. – FADHIL YUNUS
