Brunei’s wushu star Basma Lachkar arrived home to a hero’s welcome following her historic achievement at the 19th Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China.
The national athlete bagged the silver medal in the Women’s Taijian and Taijiquan All-Round final, behind eventual winner and gold medallist China’s Tong Xin.
It was the country’s best showing in the Asian Games, having previously won four bronze medals. She also became the first athlete to contribute a medal in wushu, adding to her collection in the Southeast Asian Games, World Games and World University Games.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad welcomed the national contingent home and presented a sash to the medallist.
Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari and Acting Director of Youth and Sports Haji Mohamad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly were also present at the Brunei International Airport. – Fadhil Yunus
